Protect with a Slipcover
Protect your sofas with slip covers or throws that are made with washable fabrics. This will offer protection from stains and spills especially if the piece is upholstered in light coloured fabrics. Make sure the colour and pattern of the fabric cover matches the overall decor of the room. Also, do not keep the sofas close to a window to protect the upholstery from fading due to a prolonged exposure to sunlight.
Use a Vacuum Cleaner
A vacuum cleaner is ideal for routine cleaning as it removes dust, dust mites, allergens and pet dander. Use the upholstery attachments of the vacuum cleaner for cleaning the sofa seats and the base of the sofas while the long and narrow attachment can be used to clean the crevices and corners.
You can also sprinkle a generous amount of baking powder on the sofa and leave it for a few hours before vacuum cleaning the sofa. This helps remove bacteria and moisture from the sofa.
